I just purchased this and compared to F1 2011, it is a good step forward. I’m actually enjoying playing this. Looks amazing at full 2056×1440 at max settings. Feels pretty good for a sim/cade racer. I’m enjoying my experience with it. I’d have to say this one is more sim then arcade. Glad I bought it.
Codemasters got a great title on their hands. Too bad it wasn’t finished with all the patches.
But my purchase was after the release of patch 10. Glad I waited for the patchwork done to this point before my purchase. Wonder if more are on the way? Well at least they are supporting this better then their past titles. Great racer CM’s. How To Use Voltarol Patches here.
Handling felt much the same, until I had a look around the options (Setting input override to wheel makes a huge difference to wheel users.) So I would say a improvement there. The new UI is cleaner, but just a reskin/repositioning of the old menu’s.
The TV Style presentation is better, just feels like it stops a little too short. Could do with more. All in all though, much the same. The PC demo shows horrendous texture quality all over on max settings.
The car models look nice, but the textures need a rework to a higher quality. In short, I’m still on the fence. Not enough of a change for a buy at full price. At a discount in a few months, maybe, assuming they patch it and it works. Understeer much? I dunno, I tried messing with the steering linearity, saturation etc.
Definately had tp up the brake saturaion to 20% because the braking force was awful. Maybe its my setup, but when it tells me that my setup is for ‘mild oversteer’ and I’m getting none, something must be wrong. I’m having a harder time with this than an rFactor F1 mod.
Even went down to easy difficulty to compensate for my initial braking and steering issues and I’m still being passed by HRTs on corners because I’m basically understeering almost off the track. Not really bothered about car sounds. Not up there on my priority list. Maybe if I mess about a bit more with setups and controller setup, I can dial it in properly and actually make it drive like an F1 car. I guess its a small improvement on the previous title but that wasn’t going to be too hard to do. So if I can bring myself to go back to it I`ll maybe make a more fairer assessment of it with more time at the wheel. Right now Ive had just under an hour so my comments are based on that.
